Church brand

Well I have been pretty quiet over the last few days I have been working with a Christian web design company called Freckle in rebranding my site. I am sure you will agree they have done a great job with the design and logo branding.

This is a quick post today to map out the kind of articles I am going to be writing. I have been getting emails asking whether I have an e-book available to map out all the content I write about. I am currently working on an e-book you can download which should be ready for release in the next week or two.

In two weeks I am preaching for a week so I will be unavailable between the dates of 21-25 July.

So comments please, what do you think of the new website design?

Church blogging - The secret to installing wordpress

Yesterday we spoke about research and planning your site for the first few posts and putting yourself in the shoes of the reader. Today, I just want to put together a series of posts on how to get wordpress installed and how to start adding content.

Firstly, you need a domain name to host it. If you are unsure what to call it then use a tool

Once you have a domain name in mind or already have one then you need to put the wordpress software on you hosting account. If you already have hosting just ask them if they support hosting a wordpress blog and if they have a wordpress installer in the control panel.

If you need hosting there are plenty out there to choose from I would recommend

They have a wordpress installer which literally takes 30 seconds to install.

Once it is up and running you can start to change the design as it comes with two very basic themes which personally don’t look great.

All you need to do a search on google for wordpress themes and download them onto your computer and we will cover how to do it in the next post.

Have a browse here though.

In my opinion these are some of the best free magazine style wordpress themes.

Church blogging techniques - Planning the content for your church blog

Once you have done the research and have an idea of what people are searching for, the next step I would do is break down these searches into categories.

For me, the easiest way for me to do this was to write a paper site map down and do one in powerpoint.  I would then think of the first few articles I would write in each category and write a headline from the readers perspective.

You have just done a site map.

Putting the site together.

There are a few things you need in place first.

  1. Hosting
  2. Domain name
  3. Install the super blogging software – wordpress

Over th next few days I will be posting content on how to put these in place and a few tricks and tips I have picked up along the way.
