I mentioned the phrase web 2.o and started saying how churches and Christian para-organizations should start to gain advantage from web 2.0. I have had people contact me saying, sound great Steve but what is web 2.0? I apologize for the use of terminology some people will understand the phrase others will not. So for those of you that didn’t.
Briefly, web 2.0 is the next generation of the Internet. The web has evolved and changed over the last decade. Previously the most popular websites for visitors and traffic were the search engines like google, yahoo and msn. People would showcase their websites on these websites to gain traffic.
These are no longer the most popular. The new next generation web 2.0 websites are. Web 2.0 websites allow the users to control the content. Examples of these are like youtube, facebook, myspace and blogger, to name a few.
There are stacks and stacks of them. To make a comparison though, I have put this graph on from Alexa.
As you can, google has pretty much stayed the same over this period, but these other web 2.0 sites are on an upward curve and will eventually take over google.

There is some controversy over how representative Alexa’s user base is of typical Internet behavior. If http://www.alexa.com/data/details/main?url=www.fortunehotels.in Alexa’s user base is a fair statistical sample of the internet user population, Alexa’s ranking should be quite accurate
