I recently put a website together for a church in Bury, UK.
Through the development and consultation we discussed the importance of having a contact us option throughout the website so wherever you land you can be contacted.
Although they weren’t totally for this, they took my advice on board and went with the advice. The site has only been live a week and we haven’t started any web promotion.
A gentleman left a comment asking how he could get to the church. Is this not the whole reason why we have a church website anyway? Is it to connect with the community?
I see so many church websites that are sometimes missing the boat with their websites and what we need to do is to realise that our websites exist for the community.
Here are some questions to ask ourselves
- Does the design look like we want it to?
- Can the reader connect with our mission statement?
- When a reader comes to your site, do they know they are in the right place? (Is your marketing written for you or your reader?)
This is an extrememly hard thing to do, but we need to constantly put ourselves in the shoes of the readers.
Church website promotion - How can a church increase your ranking with Alexa?

In May this year the vision for Ignite your ministry was founded. I bought the domain, installed the wordpress software I recommend everyone to use and wrote my first post.
I have always used the alexa toolbar to check traffic rankings on websites, and I checked mine in May. I was a little shocked to realize that my site ad 8 million other sites in front of me for popularity. It wasn’t so much that I wasn’t ranked highly because I didn’t expect to be. It was the daunting fact that there is so much competition.
I started to do some of the basics of web 2.0 promotion and behold in just over 3 months I have now got a ranking with Alexa of 789,593 as I write this. How did I jump up so quickly, well there are a number of reasons for this but mainly its web 2.0 promotion to get targeted traffic to my site. There are many companies that can guarantee you so many hits a day but the problem is they are not targeted hits. Alexa monitor how long a person stays on your site and how many pages they click through. The main reason I jumped up so quickly is down to the content I wrote. You have to put yourself in the seat of the reader. They want value and if you give it, they will not only view many pages but will engage with you and build community.
I put this video on youtube.
Here are some useful articles that I found on the web.
